Tim Shields enters his seventh season as an assistant coach for the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater football team and his first as Co-Offensive Coordinator/Offensive Line coach in 2023. From 2017-21, he worked with the tight ends and offensive tackles, and from 2019-21, he was the director of football operations and equipment.
The Warhawks have led the WIAC in rushing in two of the last three seasons, and a UW-W tight end has been selected all-conference in three of the last four seasons.
In 2019, UW-Whitewater led the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in rushing (197.5 yards per game) on its way to the conference championship and national runner-up finish. Tight end Jared Zausch garnered All-WIAC honorable mention.
The Warhawks led the WIAC in rushing offense, scoring offense and total offense in 2018.
In 2017, tight end Tony Gumina earned first team All-WIAC and third team D3football.com All-West Region accolades after posting 23 receptions for 251 yards and two touchdowns.
Shields most recently served for three seasons as defensive line coach at Washington-St. Louis, where he helped lead the Bears to an NCAA Division III Playoffs appearance in 2016.
Shields' other collegiate coaching stops include Illinois College, where he spent one season as running backs coach (2013), and Waldorf College (Iowa), where he spent one season as running backs coach and video coordinator (2012).
Shields was a two-time all-conference offensive lineman and started for three years at Illinois College, where he earned a bachelor's in history and political science in 2008. He went on to attend the Thomas M. Cooley Law School at Western Michigan University, receiving his law degree in 2011 and passing the Missouri Bar Exam in 2012.
During his time in law school, Shields served as offensive line coach and special teams coordinator at Lansing Eastern High School.
