Ryan Ettinger joined the Alma College football staff in February 2017 as an assistant coach. He currently serves as the Assistant Head Coach, co-defensive coordinator, and is primarily responsible for the linebackers.
Ettinger joined the Scots after serving for two seasons as the defensive backs coach at Albion College. Prior to his stint with the Britons, Ettinger was the defensive backs coach and special teams coordinator at Austin Peay State University for the 2014 campaign.
Ettinger served as an intern and Graduate Assistant under coaches Butch Jones and Dan Enos at his alma mater, Central Michigan University, from 2010-14, working on the defensive staff. A holder of bachelor's and master's degrees from Central Michigan University, Ettinger was a member of the Chippewas' 2007 and 2009 Mid-American Conference championship squads.
In 2021, Ettinger coordinated a Defense that led all Divisions of College Football in takeaways with 40, which was also a school record.
In 2019, Ettinger's defense held opponenets to under 20 PPG, previously 34 PPG in 2018. Offenses were also held to 100 yards or less per game in 2019 compared to 2018 where offenses avaraged 316 yards per game.
Ettinger currently resides in Alma with his wife Jennifer, and two sons, Eli and Emmett.
