The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater has announced Marcus McLin as their associate head coach and co-defensive coordinator of the Warhawk Football program. McLin returns to his alma mater and takes over as the defensive backs coach.
In 2022, McLin was the defensive coordinator at Division II Bemidji State. In his lone year with the Beavers, the defense improved immensely. They finished first in the NSIC in scoring defense, sacks, third-down defense, and turnovers gained and second in points allowed and interceptions. The Beavers also finished in the top ten nationally in scoring defense, points allowed, and sacks. Bemidji State’s defense featured nine All-Conference players, including five first-team honors, which included two defensive backs.
McLin spent the 2021 season as the wide receivers coach for the Warhawks and coached two All-Conference receivers, including All-Region and College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District selection, Ryan Wisniewski. In 2021, McLin helped the Warhawks to a 13-1 record, including a 7-0 record in WIAC play, on their way to a national semifinal appearance.
McLin started his collegiate coaching career at Division II Minnesota Duluth from 2018-2020. He was an intern coaching the cornerbacks in 2018 before being promoted to defensive backs coach and recruiting coordinator for the 2019 and 2020 seasons.
McLin was a two-time All-American defensive back and All-Region return specialist for the Warhawks from 2011-14. He was a part of three national championship teams (2011, 2013, 2014) and was acknowledged as a team captain during his senior year. McLin received All-WIAC accolades three times, including two first-team honors in his final two seasons with the Warhawks.
A native of Cleveland, Ohio and graduate of Delavan-Darien High School in Delavan, Wisconsin, McLin graduated with a degree in communication with an emphasis in public relations and a minor in coaching from UW-Whitewater in 2016.
